A lot of my friends are talking about Halloween parties and costumes these days, with Halloween just a month away. I've always made my costumes - or had help from my mom when I was younger - so I appreciate the effort that goes into a homemade costume.
I saw this cartoon posted on a friend's Facebook page today and I had to laugh...
Heh heh heh
Are you dressing up for Halloween? What are you going to be? And if you have children or pets that you subject to being dressed up and paraded around what are they going to be?

The Reign of the iPad
Tuesday afternoon, the company He-of-the-good-ideas works for held their annual golf tournament. Amid the golf store gift cards and promotional t-shirts there were a few big door prizes and he walked away with one of them… an iPad!
We’ve been talking/reading about and checking out reviews on tablets for a while now. Since we are both currently loyal to our Blackberries we were considering buying a Playbook, but we were weighing our options.
There are a lot of tablets on the market right now, and all of them have been compared – in one way or another – to the iPad. HOTGI isn’t a fan of Apple products; he had the AppleTV I bought him for his last birthday de-appled within hours of opening it, but there is something to be said for the tablet that all others are compared against. So when this iPad (essentially) fell into his lap, it seemed like fate.
So last night HOTGI loaded iTunes on his laptop and charged up the new iPad. Within about 20 minutes of opening apps and loading new ones (“Look at the CNN app!” and “Hey, SportsCentre”) he was quite obviously smitten, and proclaimed “how did I live without this?!” I think he’s happy. He also mentioned twice that I should get my own. I’ll just wait until he’s past the honeymoon phase with his and then play around on it.
I like the cameras (front and back) on it, and the fact that we can load Skype on it. I can’t wait to have a Skype date with my sister in British Columbia and take the iPad around the house and show her things! I also figure it will be nice to have for watching movies in bed after my jaw surgery in a few months. HOTGI likes the fact that he will be able to read the newspaper on it, perfect for when we’re camping in a spot where there is a Wi-Fi hotspot nearby.
Oh, and I can’t wait to play Angry Birds!
Edited to add the link to a photo I took of myself using the iPad and the Instagram app!http://instagr.am/p/N1jcA/

Me vs. the Ironing Pile
When I empty the clean laundry out of the basket on laundry day, there is often one or two things that end up in a basket that has been designated as the spot for any clothes that need to be pressed or repaired. Ordinarily, I get to it every few weeks or so but as it has been summer and we've been camping on the weekends, the pile has been sorely neglected.
How neglected? When I unpacked my summer clothes way back in June, I washed everything and set some too-wrinkled-to-wear things aside for ironing. This included some warm weather only skirts and tops and two pairs of white cropped pants and a pair of white walking shorts. I love the white, but it is ingrained in my head that you don't wear white after Labour Day.
So today, my vacation is over, the weather is rainy and gloomy and overall a good night to get the ironing done. The white bottoms are all set to be packed away again for next summer but everything else is freshly pressed and ready to make an appearance in my daily wardrobe.
Oh, and I had a helper. Don't you like how nicely he accents a freshly pressed skirt? Sigh.

Ho-hum Curry Chicken and Gigantic Donair Nachos
Wednesday night was Tavern Night for the Jeep Club folks and even though the turnout was relatively small, we had a great time. For those who live in Nova Scotia and want to meet other Jeep enthusiasts, come join Tavern Night! It is (almost) always the last Wednesday of the month at a pre-determined pub/tavern in the greater Halifax area. For info on how to join us, surf on over to the Nova Scotia Jeep Club forum, sign up and look for info on Jeep events (social and offroading)!
He-of-the-good-ideas and I checked out the menu of the place where Tavern Night was held for August ahead of time so we knew what we wanted before we got there. I have a weakness for curry, and the menu made the Curry Chicken sound outstanding so I ordered it. B.L.A.H. Such a disappointing meal! But it sure looked pretty with the tri-coloured penne and all!
Meanwhile, across the table from where I was chowing down on the most bland curry dish to come out of a kitchen, my friend Craig had an ENORMOUS plate of donair nachos. If you're not from the region, you likely are unfamiliar with the glory of the donair. Some folks liken them to a gyro, but in reality there is nothing as exquisite and guilty about devouring a good Halifax donair (in my humble opinion). So anyway, this mile-high nacho platter arrives and all of us are gobstruck at the sheer amount of food on on plate platter! We all helped out a bit and by the time the waitress cleared away dishes there was virtually nothing left! Go Craig!

Don't be fooled, I look tasty but my flavour will bore you to tears |
